I just finished my 2nd round of chemotherapy.
There is no narrative anymore, concerning the fact that I have been diagnosed with stage 4 Cancer. It’s all just orderly chaos.
Thoughts and ideas are simply flowing through my head.
How does one describe a changing nightmare when it may last 24 -48 hours and include physical, emotional, and spiritual pain and disorientation?
Two nights ago I made the mistake of going to bed early — 7:30 pm. I was worn out though not quite sleepy. I tossed and turned for the next 12 hours.
The next day was a nightmare. It was my second chemo session. Things got worse
Last night I didn’t make the same mistake. I forced myself to stay awake till midnight.
As I fell into a deep sleep every demon in my subconscious made itself known.
I heard voices telling me to abandon my treatment and just fast. Dark voices from my Jungian shadows beckoned me to the dark side.
I have always been a student of mantra meditation. A Mantra is a word, phrase, or hymn, common in many spiritual traditions used to concentrate the mind on the divine source or God. Through repetition of the mantra, and listening to one’s own voice, one can become balanced, deeply focused, and immersed in a state of love and spiritual devotion.
This mental-spiritual trap I now found myself in was so overwhelming and challenging that I surrendered, and asked for divine grace. Something did occur, that allowed me to hold onto my sanity. It came in the form of this mantra — “Kill Cancer, While Healing the Patient”.
It worked for the next few hours. I repeated this over and over. By morning I knew this mantra was going to be my defining thought on this journey.
In between my “Oms” and other Mantra favorites, this is repeated throughout the day.

“Lewis, your program was one of the first steps I took in the process of defining my interest in alternative medicine and for that I thank you. It has been over 45 years and I am continually amazed when I look back upon how easily and quickly one step has led to the next. Thank you for being there to assist in laying the foundations for all my future studies.”
