In my career as a success and life coach, I always told my clients to treat me like a Sherpa who is going to help them climb Mount Everest of their lives.
Now I’m feeling that myself. As if I am one of several Sherpers for my life today. September 4th is the day I leave Base Camp and start climbing. Yesterday, September 3rd was preparation day.
I went to the palliative care doctor at the hospital to get the leg pain handled and also to get a general diagnosis of what was going on. I got both.
The Doctor, a sweet man young, with a positive disposition, said he was keeping me on the same meds, but we were rearranging the dosage.
I was taking morphone, a morphine derivative every 4 hours. He changed it to every 2 hours, just when the Tylenol began to wear off.
This change in dosage and time, has seemed to control the pain about 90%.
I’m also sleeping better.
As I sat down with him he smiled. This time I tried not to seem so easygoing, and stoic. This was confusing my doctors. My body language was telling them something different from my words.
Especially with my leg pain, it must be confusing to them when they’re always dealing with people who are crying, and terrified of death. and generally losing control
The doctor looked at me clearly and simply said:
“you have stage 4 for bladder cancer with matastasis throughout your system.”
He gave me a couple of seconds to take that all in.
I asked him, as anyone might, how eminent my death was. I knew what his answer was going to be. No one can know that. There are so many factors involved.
I knew that from my end, I was going to continue a very strict holistic program and stay motivated, inspired, and positive. I also decided that I wasn’t going to be stubborn and to fight the doctors.
The Next Step would be for me to come in the following day, today, to have the oncologist tell me what the treatment program was going to be.

For weeks I’ve been sharing my journey with you. Form from the very first time they saw a mark on my lungs on an X-ray, to some blood in my urine, to the gentle leg cramping. Here we are!
Today there was another x-ray to see if I had cancer in my leg. I had to straighten my leg on the X-ray table. The discomfort (I don’t use the “P” word”, was a 10 on a scale from 1 -10, 10 being the worst.) The X-ray came back negative.
Where am I now?
I have a diagnosis and am still dealing with pain that is more under control than it was in the past. I still have some itching on my skin and no other symptoms I have a clear diagnosis of bladder cancer with metastasis.
I have my physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual tools in place. I have an emotional breakdown every 4–5- days, and when I do I call Jonathan Moll, my spiritual advisor, and Dan Wiene PHD my mentor for over 50 years. They always get me back to my mental, emotional, and spiritual “setpoint” I have my medical Sherpa team in place, and my my brilliant and loving friends as a support team.
It’s time for me to climb the Everest of my life. I’ll be meeting with my Oncologist in just 2 hours.

“Lewis, your program was one of the first steps I took in the process of defining my interest in alternative medicine and for that I thank you. It has been over 45 years and I am continually amazed when I look back upon how easily and quickly one step has led to the next. Thank you for being there to assist in laying the foundations for all my future studies.”
