“These newsletters serve a demographic of highly intelligent readers, and deep thinkers with a passion for ideas, critical thinking, and unknown possibilities. The path to finding happiness are among those ideas. Readers of my posts are usually tired of being patronized elsewhere by fact-less, opinionated know-nothings, who complain about everything they don’t like, but lack a willingness to think about, find resources, or create life hacks, shortcuts, and solutions to fix what they don’t like.”

On a personal note: Please excuse grammatical errors, typos, repetition, and any general nonsense, and such in this post. I am getting a bit older now, and I have about 20,000 pages of information that must get published before I leave the mortal coil. Q. Lewis, my wife was always a happy person with a positive attitude. Suddenly she has stress symptoms, as well as depression symptoms. She has been to a holistic therapist who thinks there may be a physical cause for the emotions she is experiencing. Can you tell me more about how does one overcome depression and anxiety, especially if there is a hidden cause to sadness?
A. I am often asked what is used to treat major depression?… or what are some of the most effective ways to fight depression? The most interesting question I have heard recently is can depression change your brain permanently?
From - Quotes on depression and Brain Chemistry
“How could she be anxious when everything was so cheerful? Very easily, as it happens. Brain chemistry doesn’t care about how pretty things are.”― Maureen Johnson, Truly Devious
First of all, there are many subtle reasons why a perfectly healthy and happy person might get depressed besides a chemical imbalance. Here is a list of a few of these causes.
Mitral Valve Prolapse: This condition, often found in thin, young women, involves a leaky heart valve, often results from having hardened tissue, possibly tiny calcium deposits in the valves. Many believe it is nutritionally caused as a result of mineral imbalances particularly magnesium. Because it effects circulation and flow of oxygen in the brain, CESUCD (Chronic, extreme, sadness, unhappiness and clinical depression) often arises when this condition is present.
Situational factors: Researchers know that certain experiences in a person's life such as childhood sexual abuse, being bullied at school and others similar situations are more likely to result in depressive episodes than others. These factors can also ``include typical grief reactions to incapacitating clinical depression. A stable, highly functional individual with what would be considered a normal personality may experience a crisis or other triggering event that may result in chronic and/or extreme unhappiness/ sadness/clinical depression.
This situational type of emotional response may be triggered by such common occurrences as separation or divorce in marriage, work failure, physical illness, confusion in one's sexual identity, etc. Sometimes a person can become depressed if they have suffered a physical injury and have not responded as well as they had expected to traditional therapeutic approaches such as speech, occupational or physical therapy. Their sense of hopelessness and helplessness can affect sleeping and eating patterns and create a dark cloud over their life.
Stress responses: CESUCD can also be triggered by a stressful personal event such as a change of circumstances or the loss of a loved one. Short-term unhappiness, sadness, or depression is a normal means of coping with such situations. However, chronic forms or extreme unhappiness/sadness/clinical depression may be caused by innumerable factors. The most common causes include;
sub-clinical nutritional deficiencies,
brain chemical imbalances,
underlying disease (such as hepatitis C),
food allergy (particularly gluten intolerance);
Wilson's Disease,
immune problems,
blood sugar metabolism disorders,
adverse reaction to medications; as well as hormonal imbalance (particularly hypothyroidism and pancreatic insufficiency),
low cholesterol, sensitivity to environmental chemicals, and other environmental factors including high positive ion levels.
Each of these above conditions requires professional care.
The Takeaway
Remember, CESUCD is not a sign of personal failure in the game of life. In fact, many highly successful people, including the actor Rod Steiger, writer William Styron, journalist Mike Wallace, and writer/newspaper columnist Art Buchwald, have all publicly revealed that they suffered from extreme forms of these symptoms.
