“This newsletter serves a demographic of highly intelligent readers, deep thinkers, life hackers, preppers, entrepreneurs, and survivalists. I especially focus on those with a passion for ideas, critical thinking, strategic game theory, and a desire to understand the world around them. On a personal note: Please excuse grammatical errors, typos, repetition, and any general nonsense, and such in this post. I am getting a bit older now, and I have about 20,000 pages of information that must get published before I leave the mortal coil. I simply write and publish more than my humble editors are able to correct. If you find enough errors you are welcome to contact me about being an editor of my work.

A 2 - Minute Read
Let’s explore the mind-body problem in philosophy. In self-improvement and personal development one of the most important questions that is often asked is which influences which more; the body on the mind or the mind on the body?
I’m in a master mind group. One thing we often discuss is how self-improvement gurus often speak of mind over matter and how to avoid the subsoncsious brain wash of memes, fake news, and groupthink. All this goes back to the mind-body problem.
Preppers often speak about how important it is to be motivated in order to do what needs to be done.
This concept of the mind-body problem is an idea that has been explored since the ancient Greek philosophers and even before.
The mind-body problem is a conversation concerning the relationship between thought and consciousness in the human mind, and the brain as part of the physical body. It also explores how your mind can change your brain chemistry. It is larger than, and goes beyond, simply concerning the question of how mind and body function chemically and physiologically (for example, the neural correlates of consciousness), as that question assumes an interactionist explanation of mind-body relations.
This question of mind-body arises when mind and body are considered distinct, based on the premise that the mind and the body are fundamentally different in nature.
The problem was addressed by René Descartes in the 17th century, resulting in Cartesian dualism, and by pre-Aristotelian philosophers, in Avicennian philosophy, and in earlier Asian traditions including Taoism, Confucianism, and Zen.
A variety of approaches have been proposed. Most are either dualists or monists. Dualism maintains a rigid distinction between the realms of mind and matter. Monism maintains that there is only one unifying reality as in neutral or substance or essence, in terms of which everything can be explained.
The Takeaway
Clearly, research in neuroscience shows that thought and the mind can influence brain chemistry. This goes back to Herbert Benson’s research at Harvard and at the Mind/Body Medical Institute at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston.
Recent research shows that mantra meditation can heal emotional challenges. This short BBC video explores this.

….and remember, prepping is not a dress rehearsal!
