The Best Ways to Prepare for Rough Times
An introduction to lifehacking, prepperism, survivalism, and living the simple life
“This newsletter serves a demographic of highly intelligent readers, and deep thinkers with a passion for ideas, critical thinking, strategic game theory, and a desire to understand the world around them. Readers of my posts are usually tired of being patronized elsewhere by fact-less, opinionated know-nothings, misinformation, conspiracy theories, and fake news.

On a personal note: Please excuse grammatical errors, typos, repetition, and any general nonsense, and such in this post. I am getting a bit older now, and I have about 20,000 pages of information that must get published before I leave the mortal coil. I simply write and publish more than my humble editors are able to correct. If you find enough errors you are welcome to contact me about being an editor of my work.

A 4 - Minute Read
I have begun writing a series of books that merge and explore five compatible concepts – simple living, lifehacking, prepperism, survivalism, and game-based strategic thinking.
What each of these concepts have in common is the idea that as much as possible an individual needs to be prepared and self-sufficient for difficult times. The information in this series of books has been tried and tested daily in my own life and is based on the work of others literally going back centuries.
My goal in creating these lifehacking, prepperism, and survivalism Guidebooks are to help the reader to save, money, save time, and help them to be more PEEPPASA (practical, effective, efficient, precise, productive, accurate, and self-aware in a SHTF scenario.
Though I am an optimist by nature, I believe it is important in an ever-changing world to be prepared to pragmatically and sensibly strategize, survive and prosper (and even help others when possible) when extremely bad things happen around me.
I think that most intelligent people recognize that tough times are ahead of us. I am not some extremist conspiracy theorist. Still, it is clear that political divisiveness, increased violence, a breakdown of civility, lack of respect for critical thinking, common sense, facts, and education, and a greater divide between the haves, and the have-nots, do not bode well for the future. As a teacher and expert on personal growth and self-improvement, I believe it is time for each of us to think about our situation, how we live now, our security and the security of our families, our communities, and the general stability of society. To do this we need more than motivation ad inspiration. As I have been told many times by my mentors, “many problems cannot be solved with a smile and a good disposition.”
More than ever, I see the importance of simplifying our lives and being prepared for various challenges. Many folks in my Facebook group Self Improvement for Beginners are even thinking of going back to the land and living a more simple, balanced, and holistic lifestyle. Some even speak of going off the grid.
Because of climate change, and scenarios like Hurricane Katrina, in New Orleans, and storms in Puerto Rico, as well as weak, incompetent, and late response from FEMA and the U.S. government many people, have decided to prepare for the worst. Add to this the water shortage in the Western United States, and rising water levels in Asia that have resulted in extreme flooding, and it is clear why the prepper lifestyle is no longer considered the radical idea of right-wing dystopians that it once was. The fact is that many well-educated folks see the potential for social collapse, and cite this as motivation for exploring lifehacking, prepperism and survivalism.
None of this is new to me I began my journey into lifehacking, prepper/survivalism, and intentional living in the late 1960s when I came across the book Living the Good Life, by Helen and Scott Nearing.
The Nearings were a couple that were pioneering advocates for simple living. Scott Nearing (August 6, 1883 – August 24, 1983) was an American idealist, radical economist, educator, writer, political activist, pacifist, vegetarian, and highly skilled at off-grid living.
When I was young and a bit foolish, I passed on an opportunity to meet and volunteer at the Nearing’s homestead. Four years later (1976) I met Helen Nearing and had the opportunity to spend some time with her discussing her and Scott’s work together over the decades as they organized and shared their philosophy and skills. After studying and applying Nearing’s work and philosophy I began contemplating the creation of a series of short books on the simple life, prepperism and survivalism, but I just never got to it…Till now!
I know you will enjoy the tips, techniques, methods, and shortcuts I will share in these newsletters. Once they are published I hope you will check out the book series as well beginning with, “A Guidebook to the Prepper Survivalist Life: A Path to Simple and Conscious Living Vol.1”
