Why I Chose this Story: This is a beautiful photograph and the meaning given to it is interesting – the spoon image.” What everyone seems to have missed about the photo is that it is an illustration of swarm intelligence. Swam Intelligence is an advanced idea related to A.I (re. ”The Matrix Movies), game theory, social intelligence, and group behavior (Re. the Jan. 6 riot/insurrection in Washington DC).
Swarm intelligence (SI) is the collective behavior of decentralized, self-organized systems, natural or artificial. The concept is employed in work on artificial intelligence. The expression was introduced by Gerardo Beni and Jing Wang in 1989, in the context of cellular robotic systems.
SI systems consist typically of a population of simple agents or boids interacting locally with one another and with their environment. The inspiration often comes from nature, especially biological systems. The agents follow very simple rules, and although there is no centralized control structure dictating how individual agents should behave, local, and to a certain degree random, interactions between such agents lead to the emergence of "intelligent" global behavior, unknown to the individual agents. Examples of swarm intelligence in natural systems include ant colonies, bee colonies, bird flocking, hawks hunting, animal herding, bacterial growth, fish schooling, and microbial intelligence, and the concept of the Borg in Star Trek.
The application of swarm principles to robots is called swarm robotics while swarm intelligence refers to the more general set of algorithms. Swarm prediction has been used in the context of forecasting problems, including such mundane problems on creating safe open seating environments during rock concerts and other events held in large stadiums. Similar approaches to those proposed for swarm robotics are considered for genetically modified organisms in synthetic collective intelligence.
For deep thinkers, this photo of a bird swarm may mean so much more than just a “spoon of sugar”.

Why I Chose this Story: This is what cancel culture looks like taken to the extreme. Cancel culture or a call-out culture is a modern form of ostracism in which someone is thrust out of social or professional circles – whether it be online, on social media, or in person. Those subject to this ostracism are said to have been "canceled". The expression "cancel culture" has mostly negative connotations and is used in debates on free speech and censorship.
The notion of cancel culture is a variant of the term call-out culture and constitutes a form of boycotting or shunning involving an individual (often a celebrity) who is deemed to have acted or spoken in an unacceptable manner.
Some critics argue that cancel culture has a chilling effect on public discourse. Others argue that calls for "cancellation" are themselves a form of free speech and that they promote accountability. Some public figures claim to have been "canceled" while continuing their careers as before.
I have done comedy writing and many of my comedian friends are simply quitting. They don’t know what they can even say anymore, feeling that most jokes are likely to offend someone. With this in mind, “Did you hear the one about the Imam, Rabbi, and Priest that walk into a bar with an obese woman and a gay duck?” (Sorry I meant a gender-fluid mallard...nevermind.
