Why I Just Can't Stop Writing
The passion, ecstasy, high, peak experience, and general all-around love of writing.
“These newsletters serve a demographic of highly intelligent readers, with a passion for ideas, critical thinking, and unknown possibilities. Readers of my posts are usually really tired of being patronized elsewhere by fact-less, opinionated know-nothings, who complain about everything they don’t like, but lack a willingness to think about, find resources, or create life hacks, shortcuts, and solutions to fix what they don’t like.”

On a personal note: Please excuse grammatical errors, typos, repetition, and any general nonsense, and such in this post. I am getting a bit older now, and I have about 20,000 pages of information that must get published before I leave the mortal coil. I simply write and publish more than my humble editors are able to correct. If you find enough errors you are welcome to contact me about being an editor of my work.
Thanks for sharing this newsletter with your friends and associates

I love to write. It is close to an addiction (I’ll simply call it a passion). Interestingly I am a slow reader, yet I can produce ten to twenty pages a day on almost any subject that interests me.
I bring this up here because I post most of what I write on Substack, and I have been researching what constitutes excessive posting of newsletters on the platform. Some say once or twice a week is sufficient. The challenge is that I have the ability to post 10 -15 newsletters a day. I’m told by those in the know, that my writing is good, quality stuff, occasionally offering flashes of brilliance. The thing is, that I just love writing, whether people love my work or not (and I hope they love it, or at least like it a lot).
Writing, sometimes ten to twelve hours a day is something I need to do. Just so you don’t think I am “certifiable”, I do have a life. I meditate, do yoga, tai chi, watch some comedy on YouTube, and then have my morning Java. I’m also married. My wife puts up with all this. “Why” you may ask? She’s a writer as well.
When my morning ritual, which takes about forty-five minutes, is done I start writing. If I don’t, I begin to feel emotionally like a junkie in need of a fix. It is just that simple. Even, writing what you are reading right now is spiking my endorphins, and dopamine and pushing me into a mildly ecstatic state.
Writers Block? I don’t get it. I’ve never had it, never understood it.
At parties, I often ask people to give me a sentence. Any sentence. If they, do I promise them an entire paragraph on the spot.
“A man was walking a dog,” someone offers.
I respond “...but it wasn’t just any, dog. It was a two-headed talking dog. Both heads were very educated and if interested a passer-by could watch the two-headed dog argue with itself on a host of import philosophical issues…” See what I mean?
So, every day, when I’m done with that work-life balance, yoga stuff…I kiss and hug my wife, and then we both start writing. She does other stuff too…and continues writing.
I have thought about why this is so. I imagine I just have a passion for the organizing of written words in different styles and techniques to communicate ideas. I write, novels, short stories, books, poetry, travelogues, and essays as well as other opinion pieces on trending stories and news articles that may be of interest to the public. I have had my work published across a range of media, and for a decade I got to read much of my writing on a show I had on an NPR affiliated station.
Here is a short video promo for that very show.
I love to read great writers as well. I do this even if I don’t enjoy the story, just so I can learn to use language to express ideas more effectively, efficiently, and with greater self-awareness. I want to be a better writer for many reasons, including a basic desire to contribute in some way to the cultural content of a society.
When I’m not writing about other people, places, and things, I am likely to write about how I write (that is, the process I use); and why I write (that is, my motivation).
One of the blessings in all this is that I can afford to write all day. I have been a successful professional public speaker, seminar leader, and Life Coach. I also get some royalties from my many published books from back in the day. You can see them on

The income from all of this and from various benefactors has given me a freedom that few full-time writers get to experience.
So, I have been freed from my concern about writing too much, just by writing this piece. I am no Tolstoy but I can write well enough and hopefully I get better at it daily. I will no longer worry about whether one, two three, or twenty Substack.com newsletter posts a week are too few or too many.
I will continue to write and post and be happy about it. I hope you enjoy my offerings.
What is your passion, the things that drives you? I’d like to hear about it.
